Terrassen Blaufränkisch Rosé

Tasting Note
This bright and balanced rosé is loaded with flavors of red currants, strawberries, rose petals, and crushed rocks. Never heard of Blaufränkisch rosé before? This bottle is a great place to start.

Why We Love This Rosé
East Coasters often find themselves looking to the opposite coast for delicious wine. However, great juice is produced right in our own backyard -- and this delicious bottle is proof. This sustainably-farmed rosé is crafted by our sommelier friends Thomas Pastuszak and Jessica Brown. Fruit comes from the west side of Seneca Lake and is cold-soaked for 12 hours prior to vinification, all of which is done in stainless steel.

Region/Appellation - Finger Lakes AVA
The Finger Lakes AVA is located in upstate New York and is made up of vineyard sites surrounding its 11 glacial lakes. However, most of the region’s 4,500+ hectares of vines are cultivated around Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga Lakes. The Finger Lakes region is often compared to Germany’s Rhine-based growing areas, as many of the same grapes (Riesling, Pinot Noir, etc) thrive in its similar conditions. The Finger Lakes overall climate is rather cool, though its numerous bodies of water help moderate temperature and retain heat during the winter. Most of the Finger Lakes’ vines are cultivated on slopes around the lakes and benefit decent sun exposure and well-draining soils. Although commercial viticulture in the Finger Lakes only began in 1862, the region is now home to over 100 operating wineries.

About the Winemaker
Terrassen was founded by our sommelier friends Thomas Pastuszak (The NoMad) and Jessica Brown just a few years back. In addition to their Blaufrankisch rosé, the duo also produces a mouthwatering varietal Gamay Noir and a seriously delicious Cabernet Franc, both of which are certain to please fans of Loire Valley reds and zesty bottles of Cru Beaujolais. New York wine skeptics, you’ve been warned. These bottles are bound to change your mind.

Serving Situation
Because of the wine’s fruit-driven flavors and ample amounts of natural acidity, we particularly love sipping it with fried snacks, grilled fish, and all things barbecue.
