A Guide To Our Favorite Rhone Producers
From savory varietal Syrah in the North, to boisterous Grenache-based blends in the South, dotted with full-bodied whites and zesty rosés in between, there’s really nothing that the Rhone can’t do.
One River, Two Worlds
Nestled between the vast Languedoc and rosé haven of Provence lies one of France’s noblest valleys. Split into two distinct parts, separated by a short thirty mile gap in between, the Rhone is home to some of the country’s most celebrated producers, as well as a vast array of microclimates, grape varieties, and winemaking styles.
To the north, granitic soils and a continental climate create the perfect conditions for growing hearty Syrah and succulent Viognier. Combine that with steep slopes and Mistral wind influence, and you’ve got yourself some of the world’s most sought-after vineyards. To the south, proximity to the Mediterranean provides a more maritime influenced climate, with varied soil types and distinct microclimates allowing for a wider range of production styles.
