Jolie-Laide Syrah 'Halcon' Yorkville Highlands 2019

We’re big fans of this two-person operation based in Sebastopol. Jolie-Laide is Jenny Schultz and partner Scott Schultz. They call themselves a " tiny, hands on (and feet) operation making distinct and fascinating wines." This is down to their methods: grapes are left whole cluster, foot crushed, and aged in neutral oak with a focus on French varieties. "The approach is a natural one, a less is more ethos," according to the duo. This cool-climate Syrah comes from from a high-elevation vineyard in Mendocino, violet-scented and peppery, We love that it's Rhône-inspired yet sunnily Californian.
