After working a year at Mayacamas, Philip Togni went on to become founding winemaker at both Chalone and Chappellet, beginning to plant his own vineyards back in 1981. Togni’s wines have been regarded as some of the best coming out of California, used as a benchmark standard for Cabernet Sauvignons nationwide. The 2014 oozes with notes of cassis, pencil shavings, and sweet spice, with ripe tannins giving way to a juicy finish.
