Although small in size, Giovanni Montisci’s estate is a force on the island of Sardinia. With just two hectares of vines to his name, Montisci vinifies some of the most profound examples of Cannonau (Grenache) that we’ve ever tasted. His vineyards are located in the town of Mamoiada, which is often dubbed the home of Sardinia’s ‘grand cru’ growing sites. Montisici has been organically farming his high altitude (650 meters) vines since 2004, all of which are trained in the ancient alberello style. ‘Modestu’ is skin-macerated for five days and vinified bone dry. Full-bodied and luscious, this unctuous wine oozes with flavors of lemon verbena, tropical fruit, and honey.
