Michel Autran is relateively new to the Loire Valley’s winemaking scene, though he is a force to be reckoned with. After 20 years of working in emergency medicine, Michel decided to make a career switch to the world of winemaking in his early 40s. After working alongside some of the Loire’s best (Frnacois Pinon and Ludovic Chanson, for example), Michel was able to purchase one hectare of vines to call his own. Today, he farms 3.8 hectares of vines all organically, all of which are massale selection plantings from old vine Pinon fruit. Fruit for ‘Les Enfers Tranquilles’ is hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in steel, followed by aging in barrel. Notes of baked stone fruit, citrus, honeysucks, and wet stones ooze from this clean and pristine wine. Will age well over the next few years, though the wine is excellent now!
