A Guide To Our Favorite Beaujolais Producers

beaujblog

For a wine that makes sense in every situation, look no further than Beaujolais. These juicy, Gamay-based wines are the definition of versatile; refreshing, food-friendly, and insanely drinkable.

Gamay All Day

Though only a hop, skip, and jump away from Burgundy, the Beaujolais couldn’t be any more different. Here, granitic soils dominate the vine-entangled slopes of the region’s ten crus, with remnant streaks of Burgundian limestone scattered throughout the hillsides. Slight maritime influences push their way through the region’s predominantly continental climate, allowing grapes to reach their full, succulent potential.

When in doubt, Gamay is always a safe bet. The grape’s juicy fruit-forwardness and naturally low tannins make the wine extremely approachable, whether food is or is not alongside it on the table. Each cru brings a distinct expression and ageability to the bottle, making this small yet fierce region a safety net for collectors, wine novices, and immediate drinkers alike.
