Deemed one of the most important producers in the Wachau Valley, Franz Hirtzberger took over his family’s vines in 1983, which are dominated by Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. Fermentations are always done in steel with native yeasts, with aging done in large foudre. ‘Rotes Tor’ shows a gorgeous balance between fruit-forwardness and nuttiness, showing notes of juicy apple, dried herbs, salt, and stony minerals. A true stunner!
