Railsback Frères ‘Les Rascasses’ Rosé

In the Glass
This refreshing, Provence-inspired rosé is marked by flavors of tart strawberries, citrus rind, coarse sea salt, and cream. The wine is produced from direct-to-press Cinsault (40%), Grenache (35%), and Mourvèdre (25%) and is vinified in old wood.

Why We Love This Rosé
Produced by brothers Lyle and Eric Railsback, this thirst-quenching bottle perfectly embodies what it means to be ‘Provence-inspired.’ After many shared meals with Provencal rosé queen Lulu Peyarud of Domaine Tempier, the Railsbacks returned to California more inspired than ever. ‘Les Rascasses’ (‘scorpion fish’) pays homage to the fish used in bouillabaisse, a Provencal dish mastered by Lulu herself.

Region/Appellation - Santa Ynez Valley
With over 30,000 hectares of vines spread across 30 east-to-west miles, Santa Ynez Valley is the largest sub-AVA in Santa Barbara. Over 60 different grape varieties thrive within the valley, thanks to its many unique microclimates. To the west, weather patterns tend to be foggy and chilly due to ocean proximity, which makes these vineyards great for Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Chardonnay cultivation. To the east, warmer temperatures make it possible for Bordeaux varieties to flourish.

Behind the Bottle

In addition to producing Provence-inspired wines chez Railsback Frères, Lyle oversees National Sales for Kermit Lynch, the importer of Domaine Tempier wines, while Eric has his hands full with a handful of other projects, including Lieu Dit wines (and us here at Verve Wine, of course!)

Serving Situation
We can’t imagine a better pairing for Provencal-inspired meal than this bottle. Next time ratatouille, fresh tapenades, or bouillabaisse is on the menu, you know what to pop.
